The new building, which has the capacity to house more than 2,000 employees, is constructed to meet global quality standards. It recently won the Leeds Gold certification for energy efficiency and hi-tech safety systems.
According to Srini Koppolu, corporate vice president and managing director, MSIDC, “The last 10 years have been an amazing journey, growing from 20 to 1,500 people and developing several products for Microsoft from India. We are transforming MSIDC into key focus areas around six domains, namely - developer tools, mobile, data, business applications, Windows and Live. This approach will help us develop deep domain knowledge and achieve industry leadership in each one of the focus areas and empower the teams to work with local ISVs and SIs to develop a strong partner-ecosystem.”
Srini Koppolu, who founded the Hyderabad centre with a dozen researchers in 1998, said MIDC had so far filed for over 220 patents, and continues to do a lot of intellectual property creation.
While discussing efforts undertaken by MSIDC for emerging markets, Srini said, “Our emerging markets’ incubations are focussed on increasing computing penetration. Affordability, desirability, relevance, ease of use and local language interface are the key drivers of computing penetration in emerging markets, and we are innovating around these drivers on PC, mobile and TV. The team has already released Live WAP Search and SMS Search and is piloting Live iCafe. You will continue to see more and more emerging markets targeted efforts from MSIDC getting productised.”
Commenting on the occasion, Dr Reddy said, “In 2003-04, IT exports from Andhra Pradesh was 8 per cent but over the last four years it has grown to 15 per cent of the country’s total exports, thanks to companies like Microsoft. Global organisations have found their roots in India, and we at Andhra Pradesh have tried to provide them with the best facilities and policies. MSIDC has significantly grown over the last 10 years, having attracted top software talent and contributed to the growth of IT industry in the state.” |
