Friday, October 10, 2008:  Opera Software has launched its latest desktop browser -- Opera 9.6 -- for the Indian market. With new features such as Opera Link and Opera Mail, the new browser is now available in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. Opera 9.6 is said to be optimised to run on slow hardware with low memory.
Jon von Tetzchner, chief executive officer, Opera Software, travelling to Mumbai and Delhi during this important launch, said, "India has proven to be a strong customer base for Opera, as the country is currently the third-largest user of Opera Mini. India has definitely shown Opera the love with their devotion to Opera Mini. We are giving the love back today by ensuring that Indians from New Delhi to Tamil Nadu can use Opera in their own languages. This support also extends to our e-mail client, Opera Mail."

Opera 9.6 allows Web surfers in India to synchronise bookmarks between multiple computers -- and even Opera Mini -- on their mobile phone using Opera Link. With Opera's Speed Dial feature, users can get their favourite Web page with one click. Opera's built-in e-mail client, Opera Mail, allows users to write e-mails in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The version also comes with an added fraud protection. Users can resume downloads with an new feature added to the download manager and the zoom in feature allow you to get the bigger picture of the Web page.

Opera 9.6 is now available as a free download at http://www.opera.com/.
