Sony Forays Into Motion Gaming Ahead Of Microsoft

Sony will launch its motion-controlled gaming system on 15 September, months ahead of Microsoft's Kinect motion-based platform. The system features a wand, resembling an ice cream cone, and is priced at $50 for the controller and $40 for camera, reports Reuters India. "The PlayStation Move will bridge the gap between core and casual, between hard-core gamers and people that have never picked up a controller," said Peter Dille, senior vice president (marketing), Sony Computer Entertainment America. Microsoft unveiled a new version of its Xbox 360 gaming console at a press briefing ahead of the E3 Expo 2010 last night. Slimmer and quieter than previous incarnations, the console features a 250GB hard drive. It is compatible with Kinect, Microsoft's new hands-free interface. Sony Sued For Dropping Linux Support On PS3

Sony's decision to drop the Other OS option from PlayStation 3 in a recent firmware update to the console has earned it legal action from one of its users. Plaintiff Anthony Ventura has filed a class action lawsuit against the company stating that the change was done not due to security concerns but because the company felt the Other OS feature might be used by "hackers' to copy and or steal gaming and other content." The suit has been brought on behalf of "a nationwide class of all persons who purchased a PS3 during the period between 17 November, 2006 and 27 March, 2010 and who did not resell their PS3" in that time, reports Techradar.
