The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) today crossed a new milestone in launching third-party satellites. With Alsat-2A (116 kg) and two nano satellites - NLS 6.1 AISSAT-1 weighing 6.5 kg built by University of Toronto, Canada and one-kg NLS 6.2 TISAT built by University of Applied Sciences, Switzerland - placed in orbit successfully, ISRO’s rocket Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) today reached a total of 25 satellite launches, reports The Economic Times. ISRO Launches Rocket With VITU Students' Payload

An RH 200 rocket carrying India’s first payload developed entirely by students, was successfully launched by ISRO on Wednesday. The rocket blasted off from the Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station (TERLS) near Thiruvananthapuram and was able to achieve its intended 60 km altitude in two minutes. Students of Vellore Institute of Technology University (VITU) developed part of the payload in the flight “as a co-passenger,” with the guidance of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). It comprised tri-axial accelerometers, power switching module and safe arm relay unit matching the requirements of RH 200 rocket, reports The Hindu. More...

ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan has said that Chandrayaan-2 will be launched on an indigenous cryogenic engine on schedule by 2013. The Economic Times quoted Radhakrishnan as saying, "We are planning to have Chandrayaan-2 in the year 2013 and by that time we should have our GSLV (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle) flying with the indigenous cryogenic engine stage; that's the target with which we are working."
