And here's the MotoCzysz E1PC, an electric bike that is considered the most advanced motorcycle on earth-and the motorbike of the future. Built by Michael Czysz, the vehicle has a custom-built 12.5-kilowatt-hour lithium polymer battery that can be swapped in seconds, reports Wired. It features a custom-built, oil-cooled motor that generates 100 horsepower (continuous) and 250 pound-feet of torque.

After scooters, cars and bikes, it's now the turn of electric-powered trucks to rumble down the highways! Bill Van Amburg, senior vice president, CALSTART and program executive, the Hybrid Truck Users Forum (HTUF), is of the opinion that hybrid systems, especially in trucks, cut your fuel use by 10 per cent and help in reduction of the fuel cost in the trucking industry. However, a hybrid truck or bus can cost anywhere from 40 to 70 per cent more than a fuel-only model, reports DNA.

Nissan To Sell Micra Cars In India

The India unit of Nissan Motors will start producing Micra cars for which domestic sales would commence from July 2010 and exports from September. The cars will be put on display across showrooms in India from 25 May, when bookings will also be taken and they will be exported to Europe, the Middle East and Africa, reports Reuters.

Mercedes-Benz dealers can now use iPads to see the latest discounts and other stuff. Mercedes-Benz Financial, which provides loans and leases, plans to equip 40 dealerships with an iPad loaded with its MB Advantage application. If the pilot scheme proves successful, Mercedes-Benz Financial may distribute iPads to all of its 350 US dealers, reports WSJ.

Vehicles Carrying Bio-medical Waste To Have GPS

The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) as decided to enable all vehicles carrying hazardous bio-medical waste for disposal with GPS. The system has been designed and implemented by TATA AutoComp Mobility Telematics. MPCB has fitted the GPS devices on more than 140 of its trucks to trace their movements online from a control centre, reports The Hindustan Times.

Geely To Launch Cheaper Car Than Nano

Chinese automaker Geely is planning to produce a budget city car that will cost less than the Indian-made Tata Nano. Electric Car Sets Record Run Without Recharge!

The Japan Electric Vehicle Club is asking to get its name registered in Guinness World Records after it succeeded in getting an electric car to run 1,003.184 kilometres without a recharge. The car, which is equipped with Sanyo Electric Co's lithium-ion battery system, ran for about 27 and a half hours until around 2:30 pm (local time) yesterday, at a speed of about 40 km per hour. A total of 17 people took turns at the wheel, reports Zee News.

Chinese Automotive Firms Aim At Energy Efficient Powertrains

At the recent Auto China Show in Beijing, it was clear that the Chinese automotive industry had put in a lot of effort in powertrain improvements for energy efficiency. By 2012, Euro-5 equivalents in energy efficiency and emission reductions will be reached, pointed Kevin Mak from Strategy Analytics. A research team from the University of California-San Diego, and Tadayoshi Kohno from the University of Washington, demonstrated how computer systems embedded in cars to control its various functions can fall prey to hacking attacks. The team also showed how hackers can kill a car engine remotely, or turn off the brakes to prevent the car from stopping and make instruments give false readings, reports the BBC.

Engineers at Siemens in Germany are ready to test a system that picks out cars and trucks at risk of catching fire before they enter a tunnel. Tunnel fires, in most cases, start when defects in a vehicle's brakes or engine cause them to become dangerously hot. The new system will look for hotspots on each vehicle by pointing infra-red cameras at them 1 kilometre before the tunnel's entrance, reports Zee News.

Infineon Leads Freescale In Automotive Chip Market

According to market research firm Strategic Analytics, Infineon sold more automotive chips than the ex-market leader Freescale, reports EETimes. The Defence Advanced Projects Agency (DARPA) has cleared the Transformer (TX) programme which will monitor the development of flying vehicles for the US military.
