Bihar To Tutor Rajasthan In E-Governance!

Impressed by e-governance in Bihar, the Rajasthan government has sought help from the state to launch an SMS-based monitoring system. Now a team of officials in Bihar will teach Rajasthan officials about this method, reports CIOL. The Bihar government was the first to launch an SMS-based monitoring system last year.

Apple Bans Android!

It appears that Apple has decided that any reference to Android in App Store applications should be immediately removed, or risk being taken down, reports ZDNet. The reports says that the developer of a small app called “Flash of Genius”, which was named as one of the finalists in the Android Developer Challenge, was unable to leverage that fact for marketing purposes on their iPhone app.

HTC To Launch High-tech Phone

Zen Mobile Unveils Its First Touchscreen Mobile

Zen Mobile, one of the latest entrants in the Indian mobile market has launched a dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) palm-sized square-touch screen mobile-the Z 90. The phone comes with preloaded themes which enables users to choose between multiple user interfaces. It has a standby time of 240 hours and a talk time of 2.5 hours. The Z 90 will be available in stores from 10 February onwards at a price of Rs. 5,399, reports Tech2.

Sharp Introduces Solar-Powered Phone In China

After Samsung, now Sharp has joined the solar phone race. Sharp Corp. has launched its first solar-powered handset, the Solar Hybrid SH6230C, in China. It will be followed by a global launch later this year. The phone has a 7.4cm LCD screen and a very competent 5-megapixel autofocus camera. This phone will be available in China in the coming months, according to Techtree.

Google Adds 'Pinch-To-Zoom' To Nexus One

Google is adding pinch-to-zoom multi-touch and 3G wireless broadband network capabilities to its Nexus One smartphone. The update will allow users to use two-finger pinching motions to zoom into on-screen images in the Internet browser, picture gallery and map applications, according to PHYSORG.com. The software modification will also improve the smartphone's connectivity to 3G networks.

T-Mobile has launched an Eric Clapton-backed Fender Limited Edition of its Android-based MyTouch 3G phone. The Android-based phone is pre-loaded with Eric Capton songs and went on sale Wednesday for $180, with a two-year service contract. The phone offers two commercial applications for free: Guitar: Solo and Musical Light. The MyTouch 3G Fender also ships with a 16GB microSD card and a 0.35cm headset jack. Enhancements to the user interface, meanwhile, include the ability to change songs or albums by touching the album art, according to linuxfordevices.com.

Google Delays Android Phone Launch In China

Google is delaying the launch of two new Android-based mobile phones in China. The devices from Motorola and Samsung were originally scheduled to be unveiled on 20 January 2010, with China Unicom as the mobile carrier. The company has declined to give a reason for the delay or say how long it is postponing the launch. PCWorld says Google's decision points to the wider implications of the search giant's potential exit from the market.

Versace Enters Luxury Cellphone Market

Italian fashion house Gianni Versace SpA will unveil its first mobile phone in May, introducing a new high-price category for luxury fashion brands, a report says on The Wall Street Journal. Donatella Versace, the designer at Versace, created the phone with ModeLabs Group SA, a French company that also makes phones for fashion house Christian Dior and watchmaker Tag Heuer. The fashion house said that the phone would be unveiled to its VIP clients at a couture presentation at Paris's Hotel Plaza Athénée. The pricing of the phone hasn't been confirmed yet, however, it will cost more than Dior's phone, which costs €3,500, or about $5,000, and debuted in 2008.

Korea Gets First Android 2.0 Smartphone

Motorola has introduced Motoroi, the first smartphone in Korea to be powered by Android version 2.0. Motoroi gives you a full touchscreen with a 3.7 inch, high-definition WVGA (480X854) display. The display uses a combination of Motorola’s touch user interface (UI) and a capacitive touch sensor for smooth screen flipping and scrolling. Measuring 11.7 x 6.1 x 1 cm, the Motoroi weighs 140 grams. The phone has an 8-megapixel camera, which is capable of capturing 720pHD video capture. It also sports a 0.35 cm ear jack, and options for docking stations that appear to support inductive charging. Apart from this, the Andriod 2.0 distribution offers a WebKit browser supporting up to eight open browser Windows, according to Linux Devices.

Google Cuts Price Of Nexus One

Google has suddenly slashed the upgrade price of the Nexus One just over a week post its launch, according to Techtree.com. The slash in the price could be the result of Nexus One's poor rating in the sales charts and Google's attempt to attract more customers. The price of the upgrade at the time of launch was $379 which has now been slashed to $279. Those who have already paid $379 for the upgrade will get a rebate from the company.

Samsung Corby Phones To Sport Clamshell Design

Samsung has big plans for its Corby brand name. The brand will now be available in a clamshell design, reports Techtree India. The Samsung Corby Folder, as it would be called, will initially feature three clamshell models - the SCH-W930, SPH-W9300 and SPH-W9350. If reports are to be believed, as of now the phones are targeting South Korea's three mobile carriers (SKT, KT and LG Telecom). But they might hit the Indian market pretty soon. Currently, the Corby Folder range is said to sport a 6.5 cm (2.6-inch) QVGA internal screen, DMB-TV, Bluetooth, 3MP camera, secondary VGA camera for video calls, and MicroSD card support. Attractively priced, Samsung hopes the product would attract buyers by the bucketful.

Google Nexus Sales Unimpressive In First Week!

The HTC-made Google Nexus One smartphone sold an estimated 20,000 units in its first week, according to a research carried by market analytics firm Flurry. The figures aren't impressive compared to the sales of other smartphones in the market, reports ZDNet. Motorola Droid sold around 250,000 units in its first week while 60,000 units were sold for the T-Mobile myTouch 3G and Apple iPhone 3GS, the giant in the space, sold about 1.6 million in its first week. The unorthodox sales model of Google has been held responsible for less number of sales. Also it is believed that the Nexus One is popular only in geeky Internet circles.

Chinese developer Daizi Zheng has developed a concept Nokia phone that is powered by Coca-Cola. The phone has been developed as part of an eco-project to minimise the effect caused by conventional batteries which are expensive and hurt the environment at the time of disposal. The Nokia cylindrical mobile phone will be powered by a bio-battery, which will generate electricity from sugar through the use of enzymes and will be four times longer than traditional batteries, reports ZDNet.

Named Sensawaft, this technology, developed by Zyxio, could prove a boon for hands-free mobile phones, reports The Economic Times. Sensawaft is controlled by micro-electromechanical systems that use tiny chips which can be implanted in devices, such as a hands-free mobile phone headset. All the user needs to do is to blow on the screen to activate the phone.

LG To Boost Handset Sales By 20 Per Cent

LG is planning to sell 140 million mobile phones this year. The manufacturer sold 117 million handsets last year, beating its target of 100 million, to claim about 10 per cent of the global market. The company claims that Google's Android operating system will not only beef up its smartphone line-up but it will increase the handset sales by 20 per cent, reports The Economic Times.
