First off neither Mac nor Vista are desktop environments. They are operating systems. You should know the difference before writing an article like this.
Now, much of Vista's environment, 'Aero,' takes from Mac OS-X's environment, 'Aqua.' It also takes from KDE-3 and 4. Just trying to make it compete is simply unfair.
It is also important to note that many of KDE's better features, such as the scrollbar, are taken from Mac environments. The menu in the beta (I'm not sure if they're still using it) was built for a commercial distribution. The reason they ended up using it was a last minute inclusion heavily inspired by Vista's unsurprisingly similar menu.
The most built up features of Plasma, that being the heavy integration, never made it into the beta. I don't know if it has been included yet.
So before you have little kids you better make way for the grandfather. KDE served me well while I was stuck on a PC. Aqua is flat out better. | 1/12/2009 12:04:53 PM |
