Voice-SMS Service Lands On Your MTNL Line

Now you can send Voice SMS through your MTNL landlines and mobile devices, that too without any extra attachment.
Wednesday, February 21, 2007:
MTNL is launching a new service -- Voice-SMS service -- through which all MTNL landline and mobile customers of Delhi will be able to send message in their original voice from the ordinary telephone instrument without any extra attachment.
On the receipt of voice message, a notification will be given to the called party automatically. The service will be launched from 21 February 2007 for a period of 15 days free of cost.
With the launch of this service, all landline and mobile customers of MTNL will be able to send and receive voice SMS. The maximum duration of the voice message shall be 30 seconds.
However, presently this service will not be available to CDMA customers in Delhi and mobile customers in NCR towns. The following steps should be followed to have an access to this service.

Sending out message:
1. Mobile to mobile and landline to mobile: - Dial 1* followed by recipient number. - Speak your message in telephone and then disconnect. 2. Landline to Landline - Dial 1* followed by recipient number - Speak your message in telephone and then disconnect. 3. Mobile to Landline - Dial 1* followed by recipient phone number along with STD code i.e. 011. - Speak your message in telephone and then disconnect II. Retrieve new messages (For landline and mobile) - Dial 1*0* to listen to all new messages.
III. Retrieve old messages (For landline and mobile) - Dial 1*1* to listen to all old messages.
In case of mobile customer, notification will appear that a new voice SMS message has been received from a number. In case of landline, only ringing will go to the customer and on lifting the phone, he/she will be able to hear the voice message. There are various options available to customer like forwarding, deleting, reply, storing etc.
