CouthIT will provide developed implementations of EVRC-B and EVRC-C on the TI C55x, TI C64x+, ARM9E and Cortex platforms.

Monday, July 20, 2009: CouthIT, a provider of multimedia software, has developed optimised implementations of EVRC-B and EVRC-WB (EVRC-C) codec for deployment by end customers. EVRC-B/C, a fourth generation vocoder, has been developed as a backward compatible evolution from the Enhanced Variable Rate codec (EVRC-A).
A more sophisticated coding approach allows EVRC-B to offer a voice quality equivalent to EVRC-A, but at significantly lower average coding bit rates, as per the company. EVRC-C, a further enhancement to EVRC-A, incorporates a wideband voice coding option for improved voice quality. The wideband coding capabilities, however, are achieved using the same average data rate as EVRC-A.

CouthIT is well positioned to provide developed implementations of EVRC-B and EVRC-C on the TI C55x, TI C64x+, ARM9E and Cortex platforms. Customers use CouthIT's implementations to create audio, video products for applications such as cell phones, PDAs, other battery operated hand-held devices, as well as high-density applications.

Krishna Nagarajan, chief executive officer, CouthIT, said, "Fourth generation voice codecs significantly increases network capacity while maintaining the voice quality provided by the existing EVRC-A vocoder. Being one of the first companies to develop the optimised production-ready implementations of EVRC-B and EVRC-WB codecs will enable us to readily support OEMs and design houses working on gateways, handsets, base-stations, streaming media servers and other wireless/VOIP solutions. Our customers can easily integrate our solutions to fully exploit the additional network capacity and deploy wideband telephony applications to enrich the end-user experience."
